The dialogue between the invisible and what manifests: structural parallels between quantum mechanics and human functioning

A Structural Dialogue

The Theory of Fundamental Belief is not a physical theory, nor does it attempt to explain quantum phenomena. However, there is a possible point of dialogue between TFB and quantum physics: the relationship between the invisible and what manifests.

In quantum physics, the behavior of particles at subatomic levels cannot be directly observed like classical phenomena. What is observed are effects, probabilities, and manifestations resulting from interactions that occur at levels not visible to common perception. The quantum state is not a palpable "thing"; it is a potential condition that manifests when interaction occurs.

The Invisible and Its Effects

In TFB, something similar happens in the psychological and functional field. The axis is invisible. It cannot be seen, named, or directly pointed to. What is observed are registrations, emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Just as in quantum physics one does not observe the particle "itself" but its effects, in TFB one does not observe the axis, but its manifestations.

Just as quantum mechanics revealed that the universe, at its foundation, operates from levels not directly accessible to classical perception, TFB proposes that human functioning also organizes itself from an invisible foundation, prior to cognition and consciousness.

Potentiality and Manifestation

Another point of approximation lies in the idea of potentiality. In quantum mechanics, before measurement, there is a field of possibilities. In TFB, before conscious thought, there is a field organized by the axis, which guides possible responses. The concrete manifestation—whether behavior, decision, or action—emerges from an anterior structure that was already operating.

Structural Parallel:

  • Quantum Physics: Field of possibilities → Interaction → Observable manifestation
  • TFB: Axis organizing potentials → Pre-cognitive processing → Concrete behavior/decision

Important Clarification

TFB does not claim that the axis is a quantum phenomenon, nor that consciousness alters physical reality.

The parallel is structural, not causal. Both fields recognize that what sustains the visible is not always visible. This is not about mixing science with spirituality, but recognizing a pattern: at different levels of reality, what sustains is not necessarily what is seen.

A Common Pattern

If quantum physics showed that the universe, at its foundation, operates from levels not directly accessible to classical perception, TFB proposes that human functioning also organizes itself from an invisible foundation, prior to cognition and consciousness.

At different levels of reality, what sustains is not necessarily what is seen.
